( ( 4% ) * 0.6 ) );\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper fusion-flex-column-wrapper-legacy\"><div class=\"fusion-title title fusion-title-3 fusion-sep-none fusion-title-text fusion-title-size-three\"><h3 class=\"fusion-title-heading title-heading-left\" style=\"margin:0;\">To go faster you need a better sail area to weight ratio and a reduced wetted surface<\/h3><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-3\"><p>For multihulls, the equation is simple: to go faster you need a better sail area to weight ratio and a reduced wetted surface.\u00a0 Over the last 20 years this rule has been applied and we\u2019ve seen the creation of some impressive-looking and fast boats, still very popular in the pre-owned market: Looping, Freydis, Outremer, Catana.<\/p>\n<p>Next to this, owners of large series cruising catamarans could be forgiven for feeling a little like caravan owners.<\/p>\n<p>But little by little, evidence of what\u2019s important to the blue water cruiser is coming to light.\u00a0 In a long-distance cruising scenario, one spends much more time at anchor than sailing.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-title title fusion-title-4 fusion-sep-none fusion-title-text fusion-title-size-three\"><h3 class=\"fusion-title-heading title-heading-left\" style=\"margin:0;\">Comfort is important<\/h3><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-4\"><p>Series catamaran yards have filled their boats with \u2018indispensable\u2019 equipment: washing machines, freezers, water makers, air conditioning \u2026<\/p>\n<p>With this the frontier has widened between the purists that value sailing, like Francis Joyon\u2019s TS50 capable of doing 400nm in 24 hours, and the majority of sailors that choose comfort at the cost of such impressive performance.<\/p>\n<p>With the financial crises in 2000 and again in 2008, many boat yards were forced out of business.\u00a0 Those that survived and grew improved their technology and techniques through investment.\u00a0 The performance equation is still the same, but the market response is different: <strong>to go fast, one no longer needs to sacrifice on comfort<\/strong>, but must instead invest in design and technology.\u00a0 And to sustain this investment, the boat yards that have chosen this route must sell lots of boats on an international scale.\u00a0 Only the biggest boat yards are able to go in this direction, with the best architects ( <a href=\"https:\/\/vplp.fr\">VP LP<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.berret-racoupeau.com\/fountaine_pajot_fr.php\">Berret-Racoupeau<\/a>\u2026), high tech factories and large commercial networks.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-builder-row fusion-builder-row-inner fusion-row\"><div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column_inner fusion-builder-nested-column-2 fusion_builder_column_inner_3_5 3_5 fusion-three-fifth fusion-column-first\" style=\"--awb-bg-blend:overlay;--awb-bg-size:cover;width:60%;width:calc(60% - ( ( 4% ) * 0.6 ) );margin-right: 4%;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper fusion-flex-column-wrapper-legacy\"><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-5\"><p>To go fast, without sacrificing on the comfort now seen as indispensable, serious investment is necessary:\u00a0 detailed architecture, high tech materials (carbon), expensive components (lithium batteries).\u00a0 The results are impressive: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marsaudon-composites.com\/fr\/ts5\/\">Marsaudon TS5<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/catamaran-outremer.com\/en\/outremer-4x-2\/\">Outremer 4X<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-title title fusion-title-5 fusion-sep-none fusion-title-text fusion-title-size-three\"><h3 class=\"fusion-title-heading title-heading-left\" style=\"margin:0;\">For the sailor, the choice is no longer between comfort and performance, but rather price and performance \u2026<\/h3><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-6\"><p>In the race for performance and comfort, boat builders like Fountaine Pajot boat yard are comming out well.\u00a0 They offer the comfort expected and are more and more performance oriented: The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catamarans-fountaine-pajot.com\/en\/sailing-catamarans\/catamaran-new-45\/\">new 45 announced by the yard at the recent Cannes Boat Show<\/a> has a weight\/sail ratio of 8.75 m2 per tonne and hulls with 10% less resistance compared with her predecessor, the Helia 44 &#8230; enough to cross oceans at 9\/10 knots and take some fun surfs.<\/p>\n<p>The Outremer 4X is certainly faster, but offers the same livable space as the Astrea 42 and costs almost double &#8230;<strong> it&#8217;s your choice to make!<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column_inner fusion-builder-nested-column-3 fusion_builder_column_inner_2_5 2_5 fusion-two-fifth fusion-column-last\" style=\"--awb-bg-blend:overlay;--awb-bg-size:cover;width:40%;width:calc(40% -
