Looping 16m / Delhay 530 – 2005

Looping 16m performance cruising catamaran, built in the Delhay yard in France and launched in 2005.  The Looping 16m is a Patrick Lüscher design, and this boat is the first of the Delhay 530 range coming out of a professional boat builders yard.  The boat is in red cedar and epoxy resin with a dry weight of 9500kg and crash boxes fore and aft.

The Looping 16m is a true performance cruising catamaran sailing 200+ nm days, and a cockpit and sail handling plan that makes this boat very easy to manage shorthanded – self tacking genoa, all lines to the helm station with electric winch, and smart boom preventer making gybing easy to control.  Our test was in very light wind, we did 5kn downwind in 4kn apparent and even more impressive, 5kn upwind at 40deg in 5kn apparent wind.  With performances like this, passages are short and long distance cruising a real pleasure.

The interior is very comfortable with professional cabinetry in cherry wood (the Delhay brothers are carpenters by trade, as well as passionate boat builders).  There are 3 double cabins and a vast saloon with cherry wood table, chart table and galley facing aft.  In addition, the owners hull has a work room forward with washing machine, water maker and spares storage.

The current owners bought Karacool in 2015 and are the 3^rd owners (the first was Bruno Delhay himself).  They have added to, and maintained, the onboard equipment regularly during their travels from the Caribbean to the Pacific.  Amongst the recent additions and maintenance are :
